It is merely toward finish so it begins to break down, nevertheless smack-upwards finale rescues they on ‘red’. Ingeniously staged and you can intelligently dialogued, it has zero higher problem from inside the way of life down their incredibly unsightly term.” [ 8 ]

Cobb), and you will an effective scuffling actress (Evelyn Keyes) whoever cousin (Nina Foch) spent some time working during the casino and you may dated good corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). Cobb, as an authorities inspector, plus in the rating . Whilst patch observe a familiar development, the newest characterizations are new therefore the shows sufficient so you can overbalance. Dialog was terse and you may topical, preventing the sentimental, phoney touch. Uncommon camera basics arrive once in a while so you’re able to intensify attention and you may briefly stop the interest. Evelyn Keyes takes on the good little lady which brings forth the fresh best in him and you can Ellen Drew ‘s the sleek and you will slinky vixen who will get him to the jams. Thomas Gomez is actually fatty because the villain and you may Lee J. Cobb really does another type of in a position trip because a tired police inspector just who in the end closes the case.
